Vicki Hodges and Joy Jordan of Kilgore’s Civic Garden Club.

Emphasis on flower design was the topic of Civic Garden Club’s November meeting. Member Janel Garnett brought four creations — two Christmas and two fall florals — to demonstrate how to make them. She explained the differences by describing materials and flowers, line material and foliage and fillers used in each one. Following the program, the designs were given as door prizes. Winners were Vicki Hodges, Joy Borders, Rita Thompson and Kim Gore.

President Marilyn Martin conducted the meeting with Martha Clark giving the invocation. She thanked hostesses Vicki Hodges, Joy Jordan and David Reeves for the lovely Thanksgiving-themed refreshment table. The centerpiece was provided by David Reeves and later won as a door prize by Joy Jordan. Jordan also gave the monthly baking tip by sharing her recipe for Cranberry-Jalapeño Chutney, samples of which were on the refreshment table.

Judging the horticulture and design specimens resulted in the following: Judy Wilkins, Patty Sanders and Pat Adams each received five first place awards. In flower designs, Garnett received four first place awards and Kim Gore and David Reeves each received a first place award.

Winner of the monthly raffle was Louise Raby. Reminders of upcoming events included the Christmas Party, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. Donations to Kilgore Police Department’s “Blue Santa” program will be received.

Attending were Marilyn Martin, Martha Clark, Kim Gore, Janel Garnett, Rita Thompson, Patty Sanders, Roberta Boggs, Pat Adams, Erin Gore, Faye King, Joy Jordan, Vicki Hodges, Alma Nell Farmer, Louise Raby, Judy Wilkins, Joy Borders, Diana Ponder and guest Linda Middlebrooks.
