Kilgore ISD school board trustees met last week and awarded a faculty member for decades of loyal service.

The Distinguished Service Recognition award was presented to Mike Northcutt, an instructor at Kilgore High School for 50 years. Last year, Northcutt was named Educator of the Year by Kilgore Chamber of Commerce and, this year, the district formally recognized his decades of service.

Northcutt and his daughter, Melanie Northcutt Crocker, were shown into the boardroom, where trustee Dana Sneed introduced Northcutt to the board.

“Our drafting and welding teacher Mike Northcutt has completed 50 years of service to our district,” Sneed said, followed by unanimous applause.

“To do all that, that takes stamina, that takes determination. In essence, it’s a perfect example of being Kilgore Proud.”
