City of Kilgore Council Member Place 1 Merlyn Holmes was named a First Lady of Kilgore in a ceremony held at Martin Gas in Kilgore Sunday.

First Lady Kay Castles introduced Holmes to those assembled, noting she has been a resident of Kilgore for over 45 years and is the Executive Director of the Kilgore College Foundation.

Holmes graduated from both Kilgore College and LeTourneau University. She is married to Gene Holmes and they have two married sons, Brent and Greg, and four grandchildren.

She is a past president of Ambucs of East Texas, has served with Leadership Kilgore, is a past president of Kilgore Lions Club, past president of Kilgore Main Street Advisory Board, past president of United Fund of Kilgore, is a member of Kilgore Chamber of Commerce and has been involved and associated with many, many more organizations.

Appointing a First Lady of Kilgore has been a tradition since 1948, when the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority first bestowed the honor on Olga Lapin.
