“We can’t heal the world today, but we can begin with a voice of compassion, a heart of love, an act of kindness.”

– Mary Davis

HAPPENING today: Kilgore College’s 10th annual Music Machine Sacred Music Camp concert and musical is set for 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s UMC Activity Center Gym, with more than 40 campers performing songs along with their show “Legends at Camp Garner Creek.”

ALSO: It’s the final day of Kilgore Main Street’s Potter Fest, running from 3 p.m. in the Texan Theater. More Tri-Wizard Trivia’s ahead for fans of the Wizarding World with a screening of the last film in the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2.”

WELCOME to Kilgore: Carsten, Manuela Leah and Jen.

HELPING Hands is a great resource for people in need, and the charity throws its doors open wider the second Monday of each month in a ‘produce drop’ from East Texas Food Bank. The pick of fruits and veggies is a surprise each time, but there’s plenty to go around. Grab some bags from the house and drop by 201 S. Martin St. at noon Aug. 12 to load up.

STARTING today, Kilgore Public Library is open the second Saturday of each month (through November). Drop by from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s heartening that the community’s demand has increased enough, again, to require more hours in the library’s week.

THERE are a lot of great, local restaurants in Kilgore (on top of all the franchises that help keep this waistline soft), and Darlene Breaux took the time to send us a recommendation for The Tackle Box: “WE really got a fantastic fish and seafood restaurant here in Kilgore. The food is great, the service is great,” with a wide-ranging menu.

THANKS, Darlene, we’ll check it out.

KUDOS, again, to City Hall, Kilgore ISD and Kilgore PD for making the effort to spread the word about the traffic plan for pick-ups and drop-offs at Chandler Elementary School. Take the time to familiarize yourself with it for your sake, for the kiddos’ and the neighbors. You can find a satellite diagram on Page 5A and (in a larger format) at KilgoreNewsHerald.com.
