“Today you will meet a beautiful stranger. Actually hundreds of beautiful strangers. Everyone is beautiful and you know almost none of them.”

– Welcome to Night Vale

KILGORE’S emergency responders will help you re-home any stuffed animals and toys crowding your house. Kilgore PD and all three of the city’s fire stations are collecting donations for SAFFE Day – you’ll need to pass yours on by Sept. 15 in order for them to be ready for this year’s Special Abilities Family Fun Event, set for Sept. 21 downtown.

ANY patrol will also accept donations. We can only hope somewhere out there is, say, a 6-foot-tall blue (pink works) teddy bear itching for a ride-along in a KPD cruiser and that a camera’s nearby to capture the moment.

THANKS, officers and firefighters, for all you do.

LAST reminder. Tomorrow – that’s Thursday, afternoon and evening. Downtown Kilgore – the Main Street District, the Texan Theater, the Old Post Office. Three events – Kilgore Chamber of Commerce’s first MixPo event (4:30 p.m. to 7:30 in the Texan), Main Street’s Sip-N-Shop (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and the City of Kilgore’s Community Open House to talk about comprehensive planning for 2030 (also 6 to 8) in the OPO.

HOPEFULLY, it could mean three times the crowd, moving between the various events.

KUDOS to the educators and staffers of KMS. That’s an impressive lip-sync performance. Check it out: tinyurl.com/lipsyncKMS.

CONGRATS to Karsen, Kendal, Kelee, Emma and Kayla. Well done, ladies, and to all the Rangerettes of ’19-’20, managers and directors.

YOU might have spotted a trio of firefighters tromping around on the roof of the (former) Mobbs Real Estate house at the corner of Lantrip and U.S. Hwy. 259. No emergency, they were just getting in some ventilation training and practice (i.e. cutting holes in the roof) before they lose the chance – when the building is demolished to make way for a new business.

WE can guess what’s going in, but facts matter, so we won’t speculate right now until we confirm. As soon as we know, you’ll know.

WOODALL sent us this suggested verbiage Monday, “Because our occasional columnist Bill Woodall can’t type worth a tinker’s dam, there was an error in his otherwise fascinating column Saturday, Aug. 17. Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, not 1942, and he knows that. Our columnist, who assures us he hopes to re-write neither history nor Lazarus’s poem, The New Colossus, also regrets it.”

HAVE no fear, after a no-doubt entertaining installment from Jase Graves this Saturday, you’ll hear from Bill again Aug. 31.

FACTS matter.
