The Kilgore Police Department aims to spread Christmas joy again this year by bringing gifts to local families and children, but they need local support to do it.

Each year, KPD helps put gifts under the tree for local kids who “might not have gifts under the tree without us,” said a social media post from KPD on Monday.

“Operation Santa’s Helper” is now in session, but it depends on local support.

“Typically we assist with about 40 children. We work with the families to provide some toys the children may desire, plus food and school clothes. We can’t use city funds, so we rely solely on donations for this program,” the post read.

KPD and Kilgore Lions Club have collaborated on their project to spread Christmas cheer for years and personally pick out the the donated gifts each holiday season.

This year, they’re aiming to raise $3,000 and have already started with $1,000 for the project, but they need a little community support.

If you would like to donate, please contact Jacki Hargrove at (903) 218-6901 or drop your donation by the KPD station at 909 N. Kilgore St. For donations by check, please make the checks payable to Kilgore Police Fund.
