Avalon Faire’s Oktoberfest will kick off the month long Oktoberfest festivities in Kilgore today before Kilgore Main Street hosts Oktoberfest in downtown Kilgore across three city blocks Oct. 5 and Brigitta’s Hungarian Restaurant will continue the merriment throughout the month of October, culminating with a special celebration Saturday, Oct. 26.
“We seem to have embraced Oktoberfest in Kilgore, I think because our community likes to have events and festivals. They are always fun events that bring people of all ages together to celebrate the beginning of fall,” says Mayor Ronnie Spradlin.
Come Oct. 5, locals and visitors alike can enjoy the Kilgore Oktoberfest in Historic Downtown Kilgore from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
This free event will see a large variety of food and artisan vendors, the Reel Beer Garden, German Bites by the Kilgore College Culinary students, a Root Beer Garden by Brookshires and a ‘Kinder Zone’ filled with lots of free activities for kids including hayrides and pretzel necklaces (Kinder Zone is only from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
Revelers will be kept entertained all day long with music by local oompah band the Bier Nutz, a performance by the Texas Rhythm Cloggers, dance lessons by the KHS Co-Ed Dance and a lively nighttime performance from The Social Club.
“This year’s Oktoberfest has expanded and we expect it to be the best one yet,” Community Relations Manager Sonya Waters said. “We have significantly more food vendors and the Reel East Texas Film Festival are doing the beer garden this year... we’re making sure they have plenty of beer and a cider available along with new custom steins.
“This event is free to attend, with lots of free activities for kids; we just want people to come out, visit with each other and have a good time.”
The 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. events runs along North Kilgore Street and East Main Street in Downtown Kilgore.
