A celebration of life was held for Kilgore artist Anup Bhandari in the Texan Theater Saturday morning. The artist, who died last week, was honored with songs, shared memories, a slideshow and displays of his artwork as his friends and family gathered to share tears and laughter as they recalled the remarkable artist’s contributions to the community. “God sends us messengers,” said Dr. Deepak Naik, as he offered his thoughts on Bhandari’s life.

“Anup was one of those messengers.”

Bhandari was well-known for devoting his time and money to the Newgate Mission in Longview.

“The world will miss his colors,” said Kilgore Mayor Ronnie Spradlin.
