Plug in to the chamber, Jill McCartney says: get energized alongside other member businesses.

The Kilgore Chamber president will be pushing that message Aug. 22 during the organization’s first MixPo, set 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that Thursday in the Texan Theater.

It’s a mash-up of two different events, McCartney noted, a business expo and a business after-hours. Admission is $10 per chamber member ($20 for non-members) and includes two drink tickets along with appetizers.

“What it does for our members is provides them with an opportunity to showcase their business in an expo format where they get a booth,” she added, “and they can display their services, their goods, whatever their business represents, to whomever else is exhibiting at the MixPo and anyone else who comes in the door.”

Getting out of the shop, away from a single storefront, is essential for a business, McCartney said, and the chamber is eager to craft new opportunities for business owners and professionals to spread their message and services wider.

“I think it’s integral. It’s so important for businesses to be seen in their community, to be participating in chamber of commerce events. It’s proven fact, it’s statistically known, that if you are a member of a chamber of commerce your business is looked at in a higher regard as well as shopped at more often.”

Chamber membership and active chamber participation becomes a must-win for businesses, she added.

“In essence, you’re having the ability to not only network with the folks that come in the door, it’s also an opportunity for them to network and do business with other members of the chamber of commerce,” McCartney said. “Our hope is to have our members do business with each other. We see it happen all the time,” and take an active role promoting it with ‘I’m Here’ visits, the chamber membership director and more member-to-member networking.

So far, businesses participating in the Aug. 22 MixPo includes (as sponsors) Arabella of Kilgore, Kilgore News Herald, the Ward Agency and SERVPRO of Longview along with East Texas Treatment Center, Representative Jay Dean, Kilgore Police Department, Brookshire’s, Downtown D’Lites, Complete Printing & Publishing, Arbor Grace of Kilgore, Mr. D’s Driving Center, Cynergy Technology, Laird Insurance Agency, Aerial Drone Integration, LLC, Legal Shield and Farmers Insurance – Toby Adams.
