Liberty City farmers market dates announced

The Liberty City Local farmers market has announced its 2021 dates for the summer and fall season.

The farmers market will be open May 8 and May 15; June 12 and June 19; July 10 and July 17; Aug. 14 and Aug. 21; Sept. 11 and Sept. 18; Oct. 9 and Oct. 16; Nov. 13 and 20; and Dec. 11.

The farmers market is located at 5333 Old Kilgore Highway in Liberty City.

Book Sale Explosion planned next week

The Kilgore Public Library and the Friends of the Kilgore Public Library will host a book sale explosion May 3-7 because of an abundance of donations.

All proceeds go to the Friends of the Kilgore Public Library, which in turn supports the events and other services of the Kilgore Public Library.

The library is located at 301 N. Henderson Blvd. in Kilgore.

Kilgore Public Library opens children’s services survey

The Kilgore Public Library is asking patrons to fill out a six-minute survey to help them plan future events and activities for children.

Those who fill out the survey could win a gift card: There’s a $30 gift card to Southern Beauty Lifestyle or a $20 value gift certificate for a Large Freezer Meal from Kilgore’s Kitchen up for grabs. Complete the survey with your contact info by May 4 to be entered to win.

Celebration will honor historical preservation

The Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation will host a historical preservation celebration from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the World’s Richest Acre in downtown Kilgore.

The event will honor local photographers of KHPF’s derricks, Rangerette bricks in the World’s Richest Acre sidewalk and downtown merchants. Refreshments will be available.

City of Kilgore plans maintenance for online bill payment system

The City of Kilgore says its online bill payments system will be unavailable from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 29 as they conduct computer system maintenance.

“Those who pay your water bill electronically should schedule your payment before after that time,” the city said. “Thanks for your understanding.”

Kilgore High School orchestra plans concert

The Kilgore High School Orchestra will host their spring concert at the World’s Richest Acre on May 7 at 7 p.m.

Everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and awards presentation. Food trucks will also be at the event.

Kilgore student inducted into Phi Kappa Phi

A Kilgore student was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society at the University of Texas at Tyler, the group said.

Erica Martinez is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi this year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
