Snow blankets downtown Kilgore this week.

A warming center has opened in Overton at the community center, the Rusk County Office of Emergency Management said.

Face coverings and social distancing are mandatory at the center. Water and restrooms will be available, but residents should bring their own food, snacks, bedding and other necessities. The facility is not equipped to shelter animals.

The Overton Community Center is located at 505 S. Meadowbrook Drive in Overton.

The Kilgore Police Department is also warning residents of hazardous road conditions this morning as a wintry mix continues to fall on the area.

"Road conditions got better yesterday, but as the sun went down they refroze and we are experiencing a downfall of wintry mix until 10 a.m.," the department wrote on its Facebook page. "Roads are hazardous at this point.

"We have a warning station at First Baptist Church downtown. They have food and basic essentials for those who need to warm up or stay the night. Bedding is minimal, so try to bring your own. This is East Texas and if you need a ride I bet you can find some real Texas hospitality on here because we are Texas different. Folks with 4x4's please help us out if someone needs assistance we are spread too thin."
