Who has made an impact on this community?
It’s a question Kilgore Chamber of Commerce wants members and residents to answer by the middle of September as the organization seeks nominations for 2019 Citizen of the Year and Educator of the Year as well as Small and Large Business of the Year.
Specifically, chamber president Jill McCartney said, “Those people who have made impacts on Kilgore itself, on the community, on the individuals, on their students and their colleagues.”
After nominees are in-hand, they’ll be vetted by the chamber and the winners announced at the year’s Star Gala, set for Monday, Oct. 14, in Kilgore College’s Devall Student Center Ballroom.
It will include a new award category for businesses: People’s Choice.
“We thought it would be fun to have a Facebook event,” McCartney said. “We will be launching that by Sept. 1. If there is a business in or around Kilgore that is your favorite business, then be certain to nominate them and check out our Facebook page” under Kilgore Chamber of Commerce.
“It doesn’t matter the type or the size so long as it’s doing business in Kilgore.”
The chamber’s Citizen of the Year award goes back to 1955.
Across the slate of honors, “The nominees must have manifested outstanding or unusual service in Kilgore.” For Citizen of the Year, nominees must have resided in Kilgore for a minimum of five years. Individuals and business honorees will have improved the civic and business welfare of Kilgore “and used talents to help other through unsolicited or unselfish service.”
