To The Editor,

A couple of weeks ago you reported that retail sales taxes were up dramatically. Will the City Govt use this to roll back the two recent ad valorem tax increases? NO NO NEVER They would rather build dog parks and walking trails that nobody uses.

High taxes inhibit economic development. There are many empty buildings downtown, but our city council passed an ordinance that requires all new construction built downtown be built for retail on the ground floor. There are countless empty building downtown, but the council voted for more.

This dumb ordinance and two tax increases: Three strikes and you‘re out.

Time for a new city council with fiscal self-discipline.

Thank you for letting me air my views.

Sincerely,

C.H. Whiteside
