Woman hit in Sunday shootout

Teen suspects in jail after gunfire on Miles Blvd.


Two suspects have been taken into custody and more arrests are anticipated after a shootout Sunday afternoon left an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the neck.

According to Kilgore Police Department, the teenager was hit as two groups exchanged gunfire on Miles Boulevard about 2:30 p.m. March 31.

“KPD Detectives have been working tirelessly investigating the shooting,” Assistant Chief Roman Roberson reported Tuesday afternoon. “A team of investigators and our SWAT Operators located two of the suspects today. Both were arrested.”

Incarcerated in the Kilgore Municipal Jail April 2, both suspects are Kilgore residents.

According to Roberson’s press release, 17-year-old Isaiah Orange was arrested on an aggravated robbery warrant (Felony 2) in addition to a misdemeanor possession of marijuana, his bonds set at $150,000 and $3,500, respectively.

Treylon Stephenson, 18, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (Felony 2). His bond was set at $100,000.

On Sunday, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Miles and found the young woman. She was transported by ambulance to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center’s Longview ER for emergency surgery. As of press time Tuesday, no further information was available on her condition.

“Initial investigation reveled two groups of individuals became involved in a dispute and exchanged gun fire,” Roberson reported. “During the exchange the female was struck by a bullet. Several shell casings were recovered from the scene along with a handgun.

As of Tuesday, “The investigation is ongoing… All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
