East Texans will get a chance to tell TxDOT their thoughts on a proposed Hwy 31 expansion at a public meeting in July. The meeting is scheduled July 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Highland Park Baptist Church at 2424 S. Henderson Blvd in Kilgore.
According to a statement from TxDOT, the meeting will be an opportunity for interested people to learn about the widening of Hwy 31 from FM 1639 in Kilgore to Loop 323 in Tyler. The two-lane highway will be expanded to four lanes with either a flush or depressed median. In either case, the expansion of the highway will require right-of-way to be purchased from residents who live alongside the road.
By attending the meeting, locals will be able to learn how both expansion options would look as well as how each option would affect the property of residents who live by the highway. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback to TxDOT representatives.
Those who cannot attend can submit feedback by writing a letter to Texas Department of Transportation, Advanced Project Development Office, 2709 W. Front Street, Tyler, Texas, 75702. Feedback can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. To be included in the project's official record, comments must be received by Friday, August 10.
