KISD kicked off a new semester last week. Thankfully, the fall semester ended before Christmas, so with the new year came a brand new semester. The KHS Theater Department, led by brand new Theater Arts instructor Sally Perkins, entertained the community this past weekend with the play Café le Monde. The actors did an excellent job performing, which included singing and dancing. Definitely a treat to watch!

Our students at Kilgore Middle School recently competed in the Academic UIL meet, bringing home the third place trophy. These students and the teacher sponsors worked very hard to achieve this award. The 8th Grade Honors students 8th Grade Honors students will compete in Model UN on January 26 and 27.   Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic competition in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.

Students at Kilgore Intermediate have been very busy reading to meet their Accelerated Reader goals. The students who met their goals celebrated with a dance party. The dances were led by the KHS Highsteppers. After dancing, they refueled with nachos. Reading really does pay off!

Chandler Elementary recently celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The Student Council made cards to present to the Kilgore Police Department, along with blue cupcakes. Assistant Chief Samples, from Longview Police Department talked to the students about the importance of respect and making good life choices. It is so heartening to see our students receiving these important life lessons.
