TENAHA – The Overton Mustangs didn’t have a pleasant time in Tenaha, but most visiting teams don’t.
Tenaha took control early, and finished up with a 59-6 win in this District 11-2A, Division I contest. The Mustangs drop to 0-9 this season, and will finish it at home next week against Wortham.
The Tigers aren’t unbeaten for nothing, and had an impressive first half.
Tenaha scored on drives of 80, 37, 56, 58 and 68 yards, rolling up 35 unanswered points. Overton was forced to punt and on the first play from scrimmage, Tenaha quarterback C.J. Horn dialed his own number and broke free for an 80-yard score.
With just over two minutes left in the first half, the Mustangs began a 67-yard drive, and got a touchdown pass from Jaylon Shelton to Luke Osburn for 42 yards, as time expired in the half. The two-point conversion failed, and the Tigers led 35-6 at the half.
The Tigers added three more touchdowns and a field goal in the second half. Overton’s offense sputtered, unable to get closer than Tenaha’s 34-yard-line.
Tenaha (9-0) will finish the regular season next week in Timpson.
