Just in time for baseball season, Whataburger welcomes Kilgore-area sports fans to stop by the new Whataburger Sports Complex located on South Commerce Street across from Driller Park.
The new six-field complex will host opening ceremonies and a grand opening ribbon cutting Saturday, March 17, before the first pitch.
Whataburger has a long history of supporting youth baseball, starting all the way back when founder Harmon Dobson sponsored Little League teams in 1950. In addition to Kilgore’s Whataburger Sports Complex, Whataburger is also a proud sponsor of Whataburger Field, home of the Corpus Christi Hooks minor league baseball team.
“The City of Kilgore and Kilgore Boys Baseball Association have been such great partners to Whataburger, and we’re looking forward to getting the first season underway,” said Whataburger Franchisee Doyle Thomas. “We hope the community will come out and join us for some fun, friendly competition at the ballpark soon.”
Whataburger has been a part of the Kilgore community for nearly 50 years.
The opening of the Whataburger Sports Complex is a momentous occasion for many in Kilgore, as the community has been working to bring this project to fruition for close to 20 years. The City of Kilgore was able to break ground three years go on the complex thanks to funding from the Kilgore Economic Development Corporation (KEDC).
“This project has been in the pipeline for a long time and we’re very excited to see it open and be enjoyed by the youth of Kilgore. We are very fortunate to have a brand as well-known as Whataburger as the naming rights sponsor and we look forward to working with them”, said City Manager, Josh Selleck.
After the game, players, coaches and families are invited to stop by Whataburger to fill up with all their favorite menu items for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Whataburger encourages local residents to follow its social media channels for updates about upcoming games and tournaments on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, @WhataburgerLife. Be sure to also stop by Whataburger’s digital newsroom, What’s Cookin’, to see the latest Whataburger news.
