The theme for this year’s SAFFE Day event is “POWER UP” and festival organizers say they want guests to feel entertained and powerful while they have fun at the event.
“It’s something he SAFFE Day committee discussed,” said Sonya Trout, one of the event organizers. “We threw around words like empowerment. We want to empower the guests. We have the overall theme of ‘Everyday Heroes’, it’s a superhero kind of theme because it’s more o f a superhero spin on empowerment.”
Trout said the theme reflects an attitude of strength and sharing that anyone can take part in at SAFFE Day.
“It can be applicable for guests so they can power up to be super heroes on that day but it can be for our vendors as well,” Trout said. The “POWER UP” theme will also be reflected at the SAFFE Day movie night, where the film “Wreck-It Ralph” will be screened at 4 Star Cinema Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
Organizer Chip Hale agreed the theme was a great tie-in to the overall belief in “Everday Superheroes” who overcome difficulty in their daily lives.
“It all goes along with the superhero thing,” Hale said. “At every event, it’s always good to have a mantra, a calling card. It helps also to re mind everyone that this is a day of fun and no stress. We want to be stress-free for the families and for them to play superheroes and do things they wouldn’t otherwise be able to.”
SAFFE Day begins 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on Commerce Street, and lasts until 2 p.m. The event is free for guests.
