SAFFE Day’s aiming to “Power Up” Kilgore next week with a seventh annual celebration of the special needs community.
Before the 2018 Special Abilities Family Fun Event returns downtown Saturday, Sept. 15, the volunteer-driven initiative will host another free movie at 4 Star Cinema: keeping with the ‘power up’ theme, “Wreck-It Ralph” is on tap at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
Rated PG, the computer-animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios features an arcade game villain in Ralph, voiced by John C. Reilly, who’s tired of being the bad guy to his good guy nemesis, Fix It Felix.
“Finally, after decades of seeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides to take matters into his own hands,” according to Disney’s description for the 2012 film. “He sets off on a game-hopping trip to prove that he has what it takes to be a hero. However, while on his quest, Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade.”
SAFFE Day’s activities are custom-tailored for children and adults with special needs as well as for their families and caregivers. That said, everyone is welcome to join in the annual celebration’s free festivities including the Thursday night movie. There are 150 seats available for the Sept. 13 screening, available on a first-come, first-served basis. SAFFE Day’s ‘Everyday Hero’ special guests will receive a free snack and drink; additional concessions will be available for purchase.
Two days later, SAFFE Day’s seventh year begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on Commerce Street, Kilgore’s entertainment corridor. Running until 2 p.m. and free to all comers, SAFFE Day includes a wide variety of activities, particularly firefighter-themed fun, aimed at building a relationship between emergency responders and individuals with special needs.
