The honors just keep coming for Sabine High School junior Kobe Renfro.
Renfro, already singled out for his accomplishments as a linebacker for the Cardinals this season on all-state teams, has been named as a member of USA Today’s All-USA Texas team.
Renfro was named to the second team defense on the squad, one of just a handful of East Texas selected, period. Others from the region on the team included Carthage running back Keontay Ingram, New Diana tight end T.J. Rogers, Pine Tree defensive lineman Gary Wiley, and Arp defensive standout DeMarvion Overshown.
USA Today does such a team for each state, and it’s sponsored by American Family Insurance.
In the 2017 season alone, Renfro recorded 191 tackles, 20 of them for loss, as well as four sacks, two pass break-ups, three fumble recoveries, and five forced fumbles for coach Rex Sharp’s Cardinals.
For his efforts, Renfro had already been named the Associated Press’ Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year, and also recently was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state team and first-team All-District for District 8-3A, Division I.
