Rotary holds course on blood collection

The Kilgore Rotary Club’s 17th Community Blood Drive collected eight units from six donors Saturday morning.

It’s less than the organizers hoped, but every drop helps, insists Rev. Jayson Galler of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, where the regular events are held on Florey Street.

“Especially given the recent shooting in Las Vegas and other natural disasters, we would have liked to have collected more,” Galler noted Monday, “but the sponsoring and collecting organizations and the receiving patients are grateful for every unit given.”

The club’s next drive with The Blood Center of East Texas is set for 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at the church.

“We will continue to try to have more donors give at future drives,” Galler added, with $500 in cash prizes available to donors in random drawings – if the drive collects 25 or more units – sponsored by Citizens Bank of Kilgore.
