Registration set May 7 for youth outreach

Summer registration begins May 7 at the Kilgore Boys & Girls Club – the spots will likely go quickly despite a bump in club fees.

Funded primarily by local donors, the youth outreach on Harris Street has space for 125 participants during the summer session, capped at the number of children a limited number of paid staffers can corral. Daily operations run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays in June and July at 724 Harris St.

Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the roster fills rapidly each year with children in the 6 years-old through 14 range.

Dues for Summer 2018 have increased: families will pay $125 for the first child in the program (compared to $100 last year), $100 for the second participant (increased from $80) and $75 for the third (and each additional) child, up from $40 in 2017.

Meanwhile, the club is, as always, in need of operating supplies, and supporters are welcome to drop off the necessities.

The current ‘wish list’ includes:

- paper towels (Georgia Pacific from Sam’s, Marathon Center Pull)

- toilet tissue (Georgia Pacific from Sam’s Marathon Jumbo Roll)

- trash bags (33-gallon and 50-gallon)

- all-purpose cleaner (floors and surface)

- Windex

- ant killer

- two industrial mop heads (fit current mop handles)
