Purple Hulls perform for Kilgore Church Women

The Kilgore Church Women met on January 27, 2017 at the First Christian Church. Acting President Dimi DeSantis thanked the First Christian Church and the New Hope Baptist Church for hosting.

Rev. Ron Byrd of the First Christian Church gave the invocation.

After lunch, Hailey Young introduced the program for the day. The Purple Hulls, sisters Katy and Penni Clark, brought a special musical program. A donation will be made to Helping Hands in their honor. It was also announced that a donation was made to Helping Hands in honor of Beverly Bernson who presented our program in October.

The minutes were read by Secretary Carroll Bolton and accepted as read. Treasurer Peggy Bowne gave the treasurer’s report and it was accepted as given. Kilgore Church Women donated to Helping Hands in memory of Margaret Martin and in honor of Beverly Bernson.

Under the Meals on Wheels report, Bowne reported that last year 2,124 meals were delivered. As of January 20, 118 meals have been delivered this year. She thanked all churches for their work.

Mary Geddie of Special Projects suggested that wheelchair caddies are needed.

Betty Fowler, Publicity Chairman, reported that the article and photo from our last meeting have been turned in to the Kilgore News Herald.

Under unfinished business it was requested that all e-mail addresses be reviewed and updated if necessary.

Under new business, Young suggested that the Church Women might benefit from having a Facebook page. This will be discussed.

Prayers and concerns were requested for families and friends. The next meeting will be April 28 at the First Baptist Church. Before adjourning, DeSantis read a poem given to her by Cheryl Laird entitled “God is With Us,” inspired by Matthew 1:23

There were 45 people attending with First Christian Church having the most represented with 12. All women of Kilgore churches are urged to attend.
