Police chase suspect on stolen ATV

An oilfield scavenger was interrupted in the midst of his heist Saturday evening, fleeing the scene of the crime when officers arrived and racing away – on an ATV stolen a day earlier.

Officers were initially dispatched to the former Inland Products site on a report of “suspicious circumstances” after an employee at nearby Basa Resources called in a report of person on a four-wheeler near the offices at the shuttered operation at 2217 Industrial Blvd.

According to Kilgore PD records, “Officers responded and observed a white male tampering with outdoor cameras. As officers approached, the suspect fled.”

KPD officers pursued the man north on Industrial Boulevard and through the traffic circle about a mile away.

“A short pursuit resulted in the suspect wrecking 4-wheeler on the train tracks between (Hwy.) 135 and Commerce” in a wooded area, KPD reported.

Officers approached on foot, but the suspect was gone. Ofc. Brady Middlebrooks and K-9 Marco responded as well but were unable to find the man, returning from the search about 8 p.m.

The discarded ATV was impounded.

“That four-wheeler was stolen (Dec. 22) from an address on Stone Road,” Sgt. Jarod Sears confirmed Tuesday.
