Poker tourney benefits KFD Saturday

Beta Gamma Psi sorority will be hosting its 10th annual poker tournament Saturday evening.

This year’s proceeds will benefit the Kilgore Fire Department to help purchase equipment the department needs, including a thermal imaging camera, low profile air cylinders, a task force tips ground monitor and structural firefighting gloves.

In addition to serving as a fundraiser for a local non-profit or public service entity, the annual Texas Hold ’em tournament, held at The Landing Event Center this year, serves as an initiation for new sorority members where they each serve as a dealer at one of the tables.

A total of about 100 seats will be available with 10 tables able to accommodate 10 people.

Tickets are $100 per player and $25 for spectators. Both tickets include dinner and drinks with street tacos provided by Edgar’s Big Taco and chips and salsa from the Kilgore Jalapeno Tree.

Rebuys will be available during the first hour with add-ons at the end of the first hour.

Sponsorships that include one, two and three tickets to play are still available, and people can purchase a ticket to donate through the sorority for a firefighter to play.

“We will have the fire department there that night, and then off duty firefighters that want to play are able to,” tournament organizer Brandy Henry said.

Check in will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday night with the tournament beginning at 7 p.m.

The payout for first, second and third place will be a Visa gift card worth $1,000, $500 and $100, respectively.

The night will also include raffle items, which are still being collected. All tickets are considered tax deductible.
