It was not a good afternoon for the Kilgore College Rangers. And the Lady Rangers didn’t fare any better.
Both KC teams, in the heat of the Region XIV Conference schedule, took tough losses on Saturday – the men dropped a close one, 75-71, at home Saturday afternoon, and the ladies lost badly, 87-40, at San Jacinto.
The Lady Rangers (12-8 overall) started red-hot but have lost four of their last five games, and have slipped to 6-5 in conference play. Tonight’s opponent, Blinn, is 10-11 overall and 3-8 in conference. KC’s ladies are play at Coastal Bend (in Beeville) Saturday at 2 p.m.
In the loss at San Jac, Jade Thurmon had 18 points.
The men’s game was much closer, and the Rangers had their chances, but Paris escaped.
Chad Bowie had 19 points and four assists for KC (12-7 overall, but 4-6 in conference). Demiere Brown had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Darrian Grays had 13 points, as did Daytone Jennings – Jennings had seven rebounds.
Leon Redo had a big game for the Dragons, scoring 24 points. Reggie Tharp, though, was the only other Dragon in double figures (14).
Coach Brian Hoberecht’s Rangers host Navarro Saturday at 4. KC is technically at the bottom of the North Zone standings, but five games separate all the teams.
Navarro is 15-5 overall, but 6-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs come off an 83-66 loss at Trinity Valley and have been up and down lately, 2-2 in their last four games.
