Overton sorority prepares for Exemplar installation ceremony

Preceptor Nu Tau, the Overton Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, met in the home of Colleen Randel on Monday, March 6, for the regular monthly meeting. President Grace Green called the meeting to order and led the members in the Opening Ritual. LeAnn McDaniel was welcomed as a guest.

The minutes of the February meeting were approved as presented. The report of the Treasurer was given, showing a balance of $306.11.

Communications from International included information about Founder’s Day. Information about the status of members was also received; Betty Clark is eligible to move to Exemplar level. Other communication included thank you notes from Son Shine Lighthouse. Pam Merritt gave oral thanks to the Chapter for thoughts, prayers, and food given at the time of her mother-in-law’s death.

Standing Committee reports were given. Chairman of the Service Committee, Debbie Maxwell, shared details about the good time everyone had at the Valentine Party. Following discussion, members decided to celebrate Founder’s Day with lunch at Jack Ryan’s in Kilgore. Maxwell will make inquiries. Randel, Chairman of the Service Committee, displayed photographs taken when she and Cynthia Clark delivered Christmas gifts to the Overton Health Care. A summary of the various service projects already completed was given. Maxwell moved that $100. be donated to the Overton Volunteer Fire Department. Betty Clark seconded the motion. The motion passed. Clark and Clark will deliver the donation.

Unfinished business included a report by Green on how warm and appreciative Mary Lou Rhodes was upon receiving the Memory Book honoring her grandmother, Mary Lewis, longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi. The meeting adjourned with the Closing Ritual and Mizpah.

Tasty refreshments were served by hostess Randel. In addition to guest McDaniel, all members of the chapter were present: Betty Clark, Cynthia Clark, Green, Maxwell, Merritt, Jody Philley, Randel, and Mary Alice Taylor.

The next meeting will be on April 3 at the home of Philley. The special program will be installation of Betty Clark to Exemplar level and the installation of McDaniel as a new member.
