Only mayor's seat contested on local ballots

With no additional candidate filings as of Friday afternoon's deadline, it looks like only the City of Kilgore will be conducting an election this spring – incumbents at Kilgore College and Kilgore ISD drew no challengers this cycle.

On the Kilgore City Council dais, incumbent Mayor Ronnie Spradlin faces a challenge from Place 4 incumbent Victor Boyd on Election Day, May 6. Mayor Pro Tem Harvey McClendon, in Place 2, wins re-election unopposed.

At Kilgore ISD, only incumbent KISD School Board president Dereck Borders and trustee Trey Hattaway submitted candidate applications, for Places 1 and 2, respectively.

With no opponents as of 5 p.m. Friday, KISD Assistant to the Superintendent Chris Hancock confirmed the looming cancellation of the school's 2017 election.

Similarly, Kilgore College's Nancy Law, KC election administrator as assistant to President Brenda Kays, saw no additional filers by Friday's deadline.

If no write-in candidates file by 5 p.m. Feb. 21, KC's election will be canceled. The three KC trustees up for re-election would gain new terms, including board president Larry Woodfin alongside trustees Scott Andrews and Lon Ford.
