Noemi was born on July 7, 1935 in Laredo, Texas. She graduated from Martin High School and began working in her teenage years. In 1958, she met and married Laverne “Matt” Mattheis, and within a number of years, had their two sons, Vern and John, while moving often due to their being a military family. Noemi continued to work in various roles including management and later established a successful catering business in East Texas.
As a devout Christian, Noemi spent her daily quiet times in prayer, lifting up other’s needs, and remembering loved ones. Always caring and helpful, she was a loving wife, mother and proud grandmother. She also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, visiting with and cooking for friends and family, serving at church, tending to her plants, decorating their home and staying fit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rita and Rito Palacios, as well as four of her brothers, Beto, Pepe, Renaldo, Vidal and a young sister, Alicia.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years, Laverne “Matt” Mattheis, son Vern and wife Laura, son John and wife Jenny along with his adored children Kennadi and Aubrey. She is also survived by several of her siblings, Hermina, Maria De La Luz, Tomas, Lupita, Raquel, Shirley, Delia, Rodolfo, Ramiro, Rito, Lopo, their spouses and children.
The family appreciates any expressions of condolence, but encourages in lieu of flowers, donations to be made in Noemi’s memory to reflect her life of giving and service, especially recommending Shriner’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, American Heart Association or another charity of your choice.
