Kilgore schools will honor those who served in the U.S. armed forces with special events for Veterans Day.
Kilgore Middle School will host their annual Veteran’s Day Assembly Friday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. in the gym. English teacher Debby Lippert said in an email the seventh and eighth grade girls’ choir will perform “America the Beautiful” and the Advanced Orchestra will play the Armed Forced Medley. Flags from the five branches of the armed forces will be presented and the KMS Student Council will will provide information about the five brances. A reception in the KMS Library will follow the program.
Retired Master Sgt. Miguel Fabbiani will be the featured speaker for the event. Fabbiani served five combat tours in the Middle East and served 22 years total in the Army and the Army National Guard. He attended Kilgore schools from grade 7 through grade 11 and Kilgore College. He now lives in Longview.
KC will also host a Veterans Day event.
KC has been collecting art submitted by students from kindergarten through college level in preparation for its annual Veterans Day Appreciation Celebration.
“The purpose of the contest is to bring about awareness of the history and purpose of Veterans Day to students, and allow students to portray their own personal appreciation to veterans for their service,” according to an online post on a Facebook page for KC veterans.
The artwork will be displayed at the Veterans Day Appreciation Celebration Monday, Nov. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. Winners will be announced at the event and awarded cash prizes.
The KC Chorale will also feature a Veterans Day program Sunday. Nov. 11. The chorale will perform “The Great War – A Veterans Day Concert” at First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. along with East Texas Men In Harmony.
The Kilgore War Veterans Association's annual Veterans Day ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Harris Street Park War Veterans Monument.
