Graveside services for Miriam Burton, 90, of Kilgore were Friday, March 17, at Kilgore Cemetery with Reverend John Burton officiating. Mrs. Burton died Monday, March 13, 2017 in Rockwall.

She was born September 25, 1926 in Reidsville, N.C., to Fred and Gladys Colvard. Her family moved to Shreveport when Miriam was young. She was a graduate of Fair Park High School and Centenary College. Miriam was a bookkeeper in Shreveport for an engraving company and Gulf Oil prior to marrying Red Burton of Kilgore, September 6, 1952. Miriam worked as the office manager for her husband’s companies, Technical Services Company and later, Red Burton Well Testing Company. The Burtons were longtime members of the First Christian Church where Miriam was a Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Burton is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Reverend John and Phyllis Burton of Corinth, Texas; a daughter, Cindy Burton Mosby of Rockwall; grandchildren, Charity and Darrin Schupp of Higginsville, Mo., Aaron and Victoria Burton of Texas City, Joy and Justin Peachee of Garland, and Molly Mosby of Rockwall; great-grandchildren, Emma Burton of Texas City, Aubrey Johnson of Higginsville, Mo., Hallie Johnson of Higginsville, Mo., Calista Schupp of Higginsville, Mo., and Ethan Schupp of Higginsville, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews, including, her namesake, Miriam “Mim” Partin and her husband Travis of Minot, N.D., Lovell Aldrich and his wife Sharon of Sugar Land, Jim Kelly and his wife Glenda of Brenham.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.G. “Red” Burton, and her son, Jimmy Burton.
