Services at the graveside for Mike Merritt, 65, of Kilgore will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 18, at Danville Cemetery with Dr. Pete Freeman and Bryan Johnston officiating. Mr. Merritt completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Dallas, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born August 11, 1952 in Kilgore to Austin Prather Merritt and Margaret Billingsley Merritt. The loves of his life were God, Family and Country. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Kilgore. Mike attended Kilgore public schools and served our country in the U.S. Army and Texas National Guard. He was a businessman and a rancher.
Mike was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather who enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Little River, Ark., and telling stories. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling, talking politics and operating the latest and greatest technological gadgets. Mike dabbled in many things depending on his interests at the time. He will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Teresa Merritt of Kilgore; daughter, Lacy Blalock and her husband Chase of Longview; two grandchildren, James Michael Blalock, Taylor Merritt Blalock; his sister, Merita Barbee and her husband Bob of Kilgore; two brothers, A.P. Merritt Jr. and his wife Susie of Kilgore, Tommy Merritt and his wife Janet of Kilgore; his sister-in-law, Freida Henderson of Frisco; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Dyer of Kilgore; nieces and nephews, Tiffany Johnston and her husband Bryan, Robert Barbee, Tara Stone and her husband Joe, Julyann Sanders and her husband Jody, Missy Merritt, Meredith Merritt, Thomas Merritt and his wife Lori. Also left to carry on his legacy are numerous friends and other loving family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wayne Merritt Jr., and his parents, A.P. and Margaret Merritt, Sr.
