Services for Max Alexander, 89, of Kilgore will be held Thursday, February 22, at 2 p.m. in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Reverend Dudley Plaisance officiating. Burial will follow at the Pirtle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday form 6-8 p.m. Mr. Alexander died Sunday February 18, 2018 after a brief illness.
Max was born in Vass, N.C., on January 19, 1929 to the late William Frank and Loula Belle Alexander. He was one of nine children. Max served in the Army from 1947-1949 and then served in the National Guard for two years. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone company, then moved into retail where he retired from Montgomery Ward and Family Dollar.
Mr. Alexander was an active member of Pirtle Methodist Church.
Max is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Thornton Alexander; son, Robert Alan Alexander; and son-in-law, Jerry Norris.
Max is survived by his brother, Bob Alexander of Fayetteville, N.C.; children, Daniel Max Alexander and wife Terry of Ft. Worth, Barbara A. Davidson and husband Don of Reklaw, Susan A. Gooden and husband Bill of Duncan, Okla., Mike Fitch and wife Kathy of Leverett’s Chapel, Sherri Norris of Kilgore, Patricia A. Jones and husband Randy of Birmingham, Ala., and Laura Alexander and husband Fabian Alfie of Tucson, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
