The lights are shining at Hugh Camp Memorial Park for 2018’s Christmas in the Park at Liberty City. The holiday attraction on Old Hwy. 135 is free and open-to-the-public from dark to 9 a.m. seven days a week through New Year’s Eve. Santa Claus will be on-site during the season – search Facebook for ‘Christmas in the Park at Liberty City’ for updates to the Jolly Old Elf’s schedule.

City of Kilgore officials will host a celebratory meet-and-greet with 2018 NHRA World Champion and Kilgore native Steve Torrence from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Texan Theater. The free admission, open-to-the-public reception will include time for autographs and photos with the local racing champ.

Kilgore Public Library’s 2018 Christmas Open House begins at 6 p.m. Friday at 301 N. Henderson Blvd. All are invited: “Come experience the Christmas Wonderland of the Library – every inch decorated – with light refreshments and live music." Santa will make an experience amid the seasonal décor, and guests will have a chance to vote on their favorite Gingerbread House Contest submissions. For more information, call 903-984-1529.

Harvest Moon Countrygrass Band is looking for dancers and donors Friday, Nov. 30. The group’s Country Christmas Toy Drive & Barn Dance runs 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Texan Theaters – the price of admission to the music event is one new, unwrapped gift appropriate for young adults ages 12 to 18 or a donation of $10 or more, with all toys and donations benefiting East Texas Angel Network.

Don’t miss Main Street’s Dashing Through Downtown activities from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Each Saturday in December includes a different set of activities including Deck the Halls from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8, Jingle All the Way from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 15 and Stuff the Stock from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 22. A growing group of local volunteers will officially welcome Kilgore’s National Guard Unit home with a three-hour luncheon beginning at noon Sunday at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Downtown retailers Julie Beck and Carrie Jackson are spearheading the effort and welcome help to honor Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion of the 144th Infantry Regiment of the Texas Army National Guard, and their families. Staffers, supporters and residents of Rahab’s Retreat & Ranch are opening the doors of the 3706 Stone Rd. facility for an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. open house Wednesday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 7. Forest Home Baptist Church’s annual Drive-Through Nativity is set 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 6-9, at 15746 CR17. The free enactment of the Christmas story (and holiday highlights) draws thousands of carloads of visitors each year to see more than 150 casts members in 13 different scenes on the church property. Dodson Auditorium will be full of holiday cheer Sunday with ‘Dancing, Prancing, Reindeer and Rettes.’ There are two performances of the World Famous Kilgore College Rangerettes annual Christmas Extravaganza, 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 2. Reserved seating is $15 per person. Reserve tickets in advance through the Rangerette Box Office, 903-983-8179. Tickets will also be sold 45 minutes prior to each show while supplies last.
