Services for Marion Dovel, 91, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Kilgore, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Reverend Will Wilson officiating. Mrs. Dovel passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 in Tulsa. Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 Friday evening at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
She was born January 31, 1927 in Cross Plains, Texas, to the late Lester Eugene Dewhirst and Martha Ruth Howell. Mrs. Dovel attended Kilgore College where she was proud to be a member of the Rangerettes, then went on to graduate from East Texas State University ultimately obtaining her master’s degree in Library Science and retired as librarian of Kilgore High School in 1992.
Marion lived in Kilgore for 75 years and always felt a special connection with Kilgore as her “little town.” She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Lee Dovel, and brother, Robert Dewhirst.
Mrs. Dovel is survived by her nieces, Marian Tracy and husband Norman of Tulsa, Okla., and Helen Michie and husband Jim of Sand Springs, Okla.; nephew, Mike Ross and wife Susan of Tulsa, Okla.; and step-daughters, Janet Malone and husband Ray of Longview and Billie Goodrum and husband Roy of Whitehouse. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews.
