WR’s Morton first-team 3A TSWA All-state

West Rusk's Makana Morton has been named to the Collin Street Bakery Texas Sports Writers Association All-State team. Morton was named to the 3A TSWA all-state first team as a utility player.

Other Kilgore-area players were named TSWA honorable mentions: Kilgore’s Kristen Wilson (pitcher), Bailey Downing (shortstop) and Mackenzie Harrison in 4A; and in 3A, West Rusk’s Brook Floyd (second base), and Sabine’s Makenzie Cook (third base) and Calleigh King (outfielder) in 3A.


YOUTH SOCCER

KSA sign-up continues Saturday

The Kilgore Soccer Association will continue sign-ups for its fall season this Saturday, and also next Saturday, July 28, both at the KSA complex just off of Highway 135. On both of those days, sign-ups will last from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Registration is $80 for the first child, and players should bring their birth certificates. The KSA ranges in age from three years old (must be three by July 31) to U-19.

VOLLEYBALL

Sand tourney fundraiser July 28

The Kilgore High School volleyball program will host a sand tournament for a fundraiser here at Meadowbrook Park on Houston Street on Saturday, July 28.

The tournament will feature teams of five people each, and there’s a $20 registration fee. Proceeds will go, of course, to the KHS volleyball program.
