Carpenter gets hole-in-one

Marvin Carpenter had a big moment recently out at Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center, hitting a hole-in-one.

Carpenter hit the shot back on July 3, on hole six/15 with a 9-iron, from about 135 yards out. Jan Carpenter, Marvin’s wife, witnessed the shot. Congratulations, Marvin!


FOOTBALL

KC tryout today at R.E. St. John

Kilgore College’s football program will host a tryout today at 10 a.m. at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, on Harris Street.

Prospective players should bring cleats, workout clothes and tennis shoes, a copy of a physical exam from their high school if possible, and there is a $20 registration fee.

There will be a series of drills that include a 10-yard dash, a 40-yard dash, an L drill, pro agility drills, vertical jump, standing long jump and position-specific drills. This is a true combine.

YOUTH SOCCER

KSA sign-up begins today

The Kilgore Soccer Association will begin registration for the fall season this morning, with other sign-up dates set for next Saturday, July 21 and on Saturday, July 28, all at the KSA complex just off of Highway 135. Registration will be held each of those dates from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Sign-up fee is $80 for the first child, and players should bring their birth certificates. The KSA ranges in age from three years old (must be three by July 31) to U-19.

YOUTH BASEBALL

All-stars resume tomorrow morning

The Kilgore Boys Baseball Association’s last hope to get a team to a World Series this summer rides with the 14-and-under all-stars, who begin their state tournament today in Center.

The boys had a first-round bye today, but are scheduled to face the winner of Henderson and Livingston on Sunday morning at 8 a.m.

The 14-U all-stars are De’Quincy Brown, Cason Cox, Raymond Espinoza, Jace Scott Eubanks, Cooper Harrison, Kain Hogue, Trent Lopez, Gage Nichols, Jared Adam Rich, Brendon Shannnon, Brayden West, and Colby Ryan Wilkerson. Coaches are Jonathan Cox, Thomas Wilkerson and Jason Harrison.


VOLLEYBALL

Sand tourney fundraiser July 28

The Kilgore High School volleyball program will host a sand tournament for a fundraiser here at Meadowbrook Park on Houston Street on Saturday, July 28.

The tournament will feature teams of five people each, and there’s a $20 registration fee. Proceeds will go, of course, to the KHS volleyball program.
