VOLLEYBALL
KHS starts district Tuesday

The Kilgore High School volleyball program has been here, there and everywhere in non-district matchups, tournaments, and play-days. But it all leads to this: the beginning of the District 15-4A schedule, and that’s Tuesday, here at KHS.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by third-year coach Lacy Coldiron, will host Gladewater Tuesday afternoon, starting with the freshmen at 4:30 p.m. The junior varsity and then varsity, of course, will follow. Kilgore is home for its second district matchup, as well, next Friday, Sept. 22, against Gilmer – varsity plays first, normally, on Fridays at 4:30, followed by JV and freshmen.
Kilgore lost at Tyler Grace, on Tuesday, but beat Palestine here Friday and is 8-13-1 this season.
Against Grace, Lauren Bryant and Jada Abercrombie each had six kills. Dayton McElyea had five, Tiana Holland and Jamaria Thomas two each, and Skyler Day and Lindsey Cassity each had one. Symonne Brooks had 11 digs; Abercrombie had 10; Day had eight, and Thomas had six. Bryant and McElyea each had five, and Mackenzie Cavanaugh had four. McElyea also had 13 assists.
In the 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 sweep of Palestine, Abercrombie had 12 kills, Thomas had four, and Bryant had four aces.

Overton sweeps SHS
Overton High’s Lady Mustangs made quick work in dispatching visiting Shelbyville, 25-18, 25-7, 25-10.
Molly Laws led the Lady Mustangs with five kills and two digs. Other OHS notables Overton: Sarah Garrett with four kills, a block and a dig; Ryan Lee with two blocks; and Maci Carpenter, with nine assists.
Overton will host San Augustine Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

LC wins again
Coach Rickey Hammontree’s Leverett’s Chapel Lady Lions beat Yantis’ Lady Owls on Tuesday, 25-10, 25-16, 25-10. LC is now 13-10 overall. They were to visit Gary on Friday.
Yesenia Avalos had eight kills, 10 digs, two blocks and four aces for LC. Aubrey Williamson had seven kills, six digs and seven aces.
Gracie Bathke had seven digs and 18 assists; Lexus Haley had four kills, five digs, an assist and two aces; Skyla Craig had 18 digs and three aces; Michelle Jamaica had a kill, seven digs and three aces; and Sara Williamson had three kills and an ace.

YOUTH BASEBALL
KBBA meeting Monday

There will be a meeting of the Kilgore Boys Baseball Association (KBBA) board on Monday, Sept. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the board room of the KBBA baseball complex on Harris Street. The purpose of the meeting is to elect officers for the upcoming year.
The public is invited to attend.
