Linda was born February 5, 1945 in Ft. Worth to Robert Green and Eloise Ward Green. She attended school in Kilgore and was a Rainbow Girl. Upon graduation from Kilgore High School, she went to Kilgore College where she was a Kilgore Rangerette from 1963-1964. After graduating from Kilgore College, she attended the University of Texas in Austin where she received her bachelor’s degree and worked as the Executive Director for many non-profit organizations.
On November 26, 1983, Linda married William Ridder. They were longtime members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Kilgore. Linda was heavily involved in many, many community organizations and had a passion for giving back to those in need. She served with the American Cancer Society, Paris Living Community Development in Paris, Texas, Kilgore Women’s Shelter, and The Kilgore Historical Preservation Board, just to name a few.
Linda had a giving heart and was always nurturing in spirit. She and Bill even moved back to Kilgore, so they could care for her parents. Linda leaves behind a legacy of charity, love, and giving of her time so generously. She will be greatly missed by so many of the lives she touched.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Bill Ridder of Kilgore; son, John Wesley Hawthorne of Chicago, Ill.; her beloved White family cousins whom she loved dearly and are too numerous to list; and her many, many friends from elementary school, Kilgore High School, and her Rangerette days who loved her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Linda’s honor to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Kilgore, 401 E Main St, Kilgore, TX 75662, or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Smith County, 211 Winchester Drive, Tyler, Texas 75701
