Lady Rangers suffer first conference loss

It wasn't exactly a great early Christmas gift that Jacksonville College brought with them to Masters Gymnasium on Friday.

JC dealt Kilgore College's Lady Rangers a 83-59 loss. It was hardly the best way to go into a long break -- KC will be off the remainder of the month of December. The Rangers will, as well.

The Lady Rangers had been on a roll until Friday, a 3-0 record in the Region XIV Conference, with eight wins in 10 games so far this season. But they ran into a buzzsaw in JC's Florence Sifa. Sifa scored 37 points, had 10 rebounds, was 17-of-23 in shooting, 3-of-4 from the free throw line, and had two assists, all in 31 minutes of play.

For KC, Jade Thurmon had 18 points, and Richelle Velez added 13. Hennesey Handy had nine. Alexis Mardis had six points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Rangers (8-3) will be off until Jan. 2, when they'll play in a mini-tournament at Bossier Parish Community College -- they face Baton Rouge Community College that day, and then face Hinds (Miss.) Community College on Jan. 3.
