“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”

Abraham Lincoln

IN the newspaper business we talk about the old hands as folks who have ink in their blood. (In today’s parlance, I self-identify with that.)

BY that standard, Diana Bara would have pills in her blood. Now the pharmacy manager at WalMart, long-time Kilgoreo Diane is a third-generation pharmacist – both her father and her grandfather were pharmacists.

APPARENTLY that lineage has paid off… we’re told the Walmart pharmacy here has been named best of 119 stores in this district.

HOW could we not go see "Loving Vincent" tomorrow night? Not only is it being shown in the Texan but every scene in the movie was hand-painted. On top of that, it’s the opening act for KilGogh, the community’s annual art festival which falls later in March.

WHEN it rained in Amarillo last week for the first time in 126 days, the official rain gauge collected .01 inches. That’s one one-hundredth of an inch.

BY comparison, Lee Layman’s rain gauge in south Kilgore, collected almost 5 inches since last Tuesday.

THE Atlantic Coast of Namibia is known as the Skeleton Coast. Dense fog and heavy surf have contributed to an unusually high number of ship wrecks there through the centuries. A book about one of those wrecks written in 1944 coined the nickname – and that caustic appellation stuck.

AND now we know: Barbara Streisand has revealed that two of her dogs, Miss Violet and Miss Scarlett, were cloned from her 14-year-old Coton du Tulear Samantha, who died in 2017.
