A 19-year-old Kilgore woman died early Sunday morning following a one-vehicle crash on FM 349.

Catherine Michelle McCarty, a passenger in the vehicle, died en route to a Tyler hospital. The driver, 20-year-old Zachary Paul Vick, was also injured.

The wreck occurred in the 4400 block of FM 349 at 3:59 a.m. Oct. 1, Kilgore Assistant Police Chief Roman Roberson reported.

“He was traveling east on FM 349, left the roadway and lost control,” Roberson said Monday. “The vehicle rolled and collided with a concrete wall, a culvert,” then flipped and rolled again.

McCarty was life-flighted to Trinity Mother Frances hospital in Tyler, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Vick was transported to Christus-Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview with non-life-threatening injuries.

On the scene, “There were indications of, possibly, alcohol,” Roberson noted, “so we're continuing with the investigation. There was a warrant obtained for a blood draw from the driver.”

Funeral services for McCarty are pending at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore.
