Girls high school basketball playoffs begin tomorrow, and both Kilgore and Sabine will try to advance to the second round.
Coach Jeff Coleman's Kilgore Lady Bulldogs finished in a tie for first in District 15-4A, and will see a very familiar opponent for the UIL Class 4A first round: Henderson.
Kilgore and Henderson are in the same district for football and for soccer, but not for basketball, baseball, softball and other sports. So the rivals will meet Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Pine Tree High School in Longview. The winner, of course, will advance to the second round, likely to be played this weekend. For the loser, the season is over.
Sabine will play in the first round Tuesday, as well, in a similar situation. Coach Sara Cantrell's Lady Cardinals also finished in a tie for first in their district, and they'll meet Jefferson on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Longview High School.
The boys teams from both KHS and Sabine are finishing their regular seasons the early portion of this week, and both have already qualified for the playoffs. See updates on both of them here on kilgorenewsherald.com on Wednesday morning.
