Services for Jacqueline W. Carter, 96, of Kilgore will be 4 p.m. Thursday, January 4, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Debbie Daigle officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carter died Monday, January 1, 2018 in Longview. Jacqueline was born July 28, 1921 in Norman, Okla., to Ulys and Berthe Webb. She was a 1942 graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Geology where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and several honor societies.

Mrs. Carter worked as a geologist before moving to Kilgore, where she worked for Pritchard and Abbott as the City Tax Collector. She was an active member and past president of the Docents Guild of the East Texas Oil Museum with over 4,700 hours of service.

Mrs. Carter was a volunteer and past treasurer of the Friends of the Library. She was past president of the Kilgore Church Women. Jacqueline was a past president of the Cotorie Club and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a member of the Republican Women’s Club and the Social Order of the Beauceant’s.

In 2001 she was honored by the DAR for her outstanding community service. Jacqueline was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Kilgore. She was honored as first lady of Kilgore in 2011.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her sons, Dr. John and Margaret Carter of Kilgore, James K. and Donna Carter of Longview, Paul W. Carter of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Colleen Marzelli and husband Scott of Tyler, Shawn Carter and wife Christie of Kilgore, Nathan Carter and wife Alexa of Pasadena, Calif., Nicholas Carter of Fort Worth; five great-grandchildren, Ross, Chelsea, Carter, Olivia, and Maddi Ann, as well as two nieces.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Wednesday evening between 6-7:30 p.m.

Memorial contribution may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Kilgore Public Library or the East Texas Oil Museum.
