A Celebration of Life for Rev. Harold Wageman, 90, of Overton, will be held at 11 a.m. on December 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tyler with Rev. Art Hill officiating. Rev. Wageman completed his earthly journey on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in Henderson.
Harold was born on November 20, 1927, in Wakefield, Neb., to Harry and Virginia Wageman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield. He graduated from Wakefield High School, St. John’s Academy in Winfield, Kan., and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo.
He served as a Lutheran minister at Immanuel, Good Shepherd, Prince of Peace and Christ Lutheran Churches in Wisconsin, Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kansas, Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Kilgore, founding pastor of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Longview, Concordia Lutheran Church in Houston. After serving more than 20 years as pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, on March 8, 1981, then Mayor Foster T. Bean declared that day to be Harold F. Wageman Day in Kilgore.
Rev. Wageman served twice as President of the Kilgore Ministerial Alliance. He also served the Texas District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as Circuit Counselor, District Coordinator of information for Forward Remembrance, Editor of the “Texas Messenger,” an insert to “The Lutheran Witness.” He also volunteered at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
Harold enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening, photography and woodworking.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barry Wageman and his wife Norma of Wausau, Wisc., Richard Wageman of Overton, Cindy Harantcavage and her husband Alex of Overton; grandchildren, Jeffrey Wageman and his wife Jennifer of Appleton, WI, Bradley Wageman of Tallahassee, FL, Joseph Wageman and his wife Ivonne of Broomfield, Colo.; great -grandchildren, Avery, Mason, Kiana, Michael and Leah. Also left to carry on his legacy are numerous friends.
Rev. Wageman was preceded in death by his wife, Joan M. Martin Wageman, parents and a grandson, Andrew Christian Wageman.
