A 27-year-old Longview man was injured Thursday morning when he was unable to steer his motorcycle clear of a pickup that pulled in front of him – the truck driver fled the scene.
Johnathan Eugene Moore, 50, faces a charge of accident involving injury after leaving the site of the crash in the 3400 block of U.S. Hwy. 259 N. and hiding in the nearby Lexington Court Apartments.
The motorcycle rider, Kevin Bradley, was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No further information is available on his condition.
According to Kilgore Police Department Lt. Johnathan Gage, both Bradley and Moore were southbound on 259 when Moore moved in front of the motorcycle about 8:30 a.m.
“The motorcycle tried to avoid colliding with the back of the truck,” Gage reported, and ultimately “skidded on the ground under the truck.
“The pickup driver left the scene and the motorcycle driver sustained pretty serious injuries.”
Police officers were dispatched to the scene at 8:33 a.m. and were soon searching for the truck driver, whom witnesses said turned into the apartment complex, as Bradley was being transported by ambulance. After a short search, the officers found Moore’s tan F150 pickup and noted the recent damage.
“He was definitely trying to avoid detection,” Gage said. “He was aware that he was involved in an accident, and he willingly left the scene.”
By 9:31 a.m. Moore, a Kilgore resident, was headed to Kilgore Municipal Jail. He was booked into Gregg County Jail Thursday and released on $10,000 bond Friday.
