Kilgore man arrested after fleeing scene of fatal robbery

Longview Police have linked a Kilgore man to a fatal robbery attempt there Saturday.

According to LPD, the perpetrator of the armed robbery Dec. 23 was shot to death by a Twelfth Street homeowner about 2 a.m.

Meanwhile, “There was a car that fled the scene and was stopped by a Longview Officer,” the department reported in a press release later that morning.

Behind the wheel, 26-year-old Kilgore resident Lamontrel Dunn was taken into custody on outstanding warrants and booked into Gregg County Jail.

“He was arrested on three Class C misdemeanor tickets,” LPD Ofc. Kristie Brian confirmed, including (according to Gregg County Judicial Records) a speeding ticket, no drivers license and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

Dunn was released Dec. 24.

“At this point the investigation is ongoing,” Brian said.

At the scene of the break-in, the shooting occurred at 1:57 a.m. Saturday, LPD reported, after a resident in the 1000 block of Twelfth Street returned home and was confronted by an armed man wearing a bandana.

According to the department’s press release, “The resident shot at the suspect prior to retreating to his home and has been cooperative with the investigation.”

The 24-year-old suspect, Port Arthur resident Jalen Johnson, died at the scene, LPD reported.
