Kilgore, LC come back from down two to win

Posted

If Kilgore High School volleyball had any realistic hope of getting back to the UIL Class 4A playoffs, then Tuesday night’s home game against Spring Hill was a must-win.

For the Lady Bulldogs’ sake, thank goodness they got it.

It took them five sets, but Kilgore beat Spring Hill, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-5 win over the visiting Lady Panthers, avoiding an 0-3 start in District 16-4A play that would have surely doomed the Lady ‘Dogs to staying home during the playoffs. Kilgore lost the first two sets, but then got it together to win three straight for the victory.

That win also broke a four-game losing streak for the Lady Bulldogs.

For KHS in the victory, Alexis Anderson had nine kills. Miah Thomas had eight, to go with three blocks and 21 digs. Lauren Bryant had five aces and 22 service points. Jada Abercrombie had eight kills and 18 digs. Rylie Mann had six kills.

For Spring Hill, Kaelyn Elliott had 12 kills; Azaria Jones had five; and Ansley Nichols and Maci Plunk each had three. Sam Schott had 37 digs.

Kilgore (1-2 in district now, 11-14 overall) swept Grace Academy on Friday, 25-6, 25-17, 27-25. Jada Abercrombie had five kills. Shelby Page had 10 assists. Sabine: Sabine's Lady Cardinals didn't trail by two sets, and didn’t need five; they needed only three.

Sabine swept Gladewater, 25-5, 25-15, 25-12, Tuesday night. Coach Kristen Reaves’ Lady Cardinals have won four straight – all of them District 16-3A games – and they’re rolling. Sabine (17-9) was to play a home game against Harmony on Friday night, then visit West Rusk on Tuesday.
