Johnson, Griffin exchange vows


Ashton Danielle Johnson and James Ryan Griffin were united in marriage at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Kilgore. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Rev. Barrett Abernethy of Livingston, Ala. Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at The Summit Club in Longview.

On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Cherokee Club in Longview.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lopez of Kilgore. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Thompson of Palestine and Mrs. Melba Ellis of Slidell, La., and the late Bobby Johnson of Oakwood. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hall Griffin III of Kilgore. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. Jr. and Helen “Pudge” Griffin of Kilgore and the late Ms. Nelda Camp and the late Mr. James “Buddy” Camp of Gilmer.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a classic mermaid ivory French Alençon lace Allure Couture gown with a high beaded collar and cutaway lace over a sweetheart neckline. White satin-covered buttons extended down the fully beaded back to the edge of the chapel length train. Ashton wore a custom cascading cathedral length ivory veil with a delicate beaded edging.

Serving as bridesmaids were Gabby Blake of San Angelo, Carli Howard of Kilgore, Joy Medellin of Dallas, Amy Mims of Kilgore, Margie Mitchell of San Antonio, Brittani Pfau of White Oak, and Christina Varela of Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.

Groomsmen were Michael Anthony of Boca Raton, Fla., Ryan Huckabee of Kilgore, Thomas Howard of Kilgore, Trent Lopez of Kilgore, Daniel McKay of Waco, and Preston Fincher of Kilgore.

Guests were greeted by program attendants Drew Bates, Sydney Bates and Payton Day, all of Kilgore. Phillip Mitchell and Andrew Terrell of Dallas served as ushers. The bride’s brother, Michael Lopez, escorted their mother.

Music was provided for the ceremony by First Presbyterian Church organist Lorenz Maycher, accompanied by the First Presbyterian Church chancel choir and soloist Daniel Hatten of Gladewater.

Following a honeymoon to French Polynesia, the couple resides in Kilgore.
